And the winner is...

Josh and Blake after the big win
We have a champion in our midst!  Yes, our very own Josh came out victorious in the Hillapalooza Triathlon on Sunday August 15th.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with the great sport of Triathlon (and come on, aren't we all?) there are quite a few different distances that can be considered a true triathlon. Without going into all the different kinds (I'll save that for another post) I'll just tell you about this particular one.  In the Hillapalooza Tri, there were two different distances being raced- the olympic distance and the sprint distance.  The olympic distance racers started first and raced a total of 1500 meters in the water, 40 kilometers on the bike and 10 kilometers on the run.  The next distance was the sprint distance, which Josh competed in and won.  This distance consists of a 400 meter swim, 11 mile bike and two mile run.  Although Josh has done as much as a half Ironman tri distance (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run) the sprint is one of the distances I personally think he excels at.  In other words, he's FAST!
Although I knew Josh had a very good chance of winning this race, I was still amazed and surprised when I looked up to see Josh riding in as the very first biker off the course.  I looked at Blake and said, "That's Dad!" and we both took off to see him transition from the bike to the run.  If there was a world record for pregnant woman sprinting, I'm sure I set a new one at that moment.  Blake and I were so excited!  I knew that the next person behind Josh wouldn't be able to catch him on the run.  Like I said before, he's fast!  In fact, Josh came in first by such a margin that he still beat the pack even after he accidentally ran an extra quarter mile further than rest, due to some miscommunication from race officials.  We were so proud to see him cross the finish line in first place! So congrats to Josh, who's hard work paid off in a big way.
